The Field Test

A contractor runs the same real task twice, on camera, at their own jobsite or office. Once on the stack they use today, once on the challenger’s product. We set the task, hold the clock, and referee. Then we publish what happened.

The board

Who contractors asked us to test

These are the companies contractors have asked us to test, and where each one stands. We publish what happened and when. Nothing else.

Threshold to contact

Five verified nominations, or one verified nomination from a contractor doing $10M+ who offers to host.

Eligibility floor

Institutional funding, 25+ employees, 500+ stated customers, or advertising to contractors at scale. Anything smaller reads Not eligible with the reason. The point is holding real companies accountable, not putting a solo founder out of business.

Nominator privacy

A nominator’s identity is never disclosed to the vendor. Count and trade mix only.

What it costs

Field Tests are produced at cost, and the number depends on the trade, the travel, and the complexity of the task. We work that out with each company directly, and we fund several a year ourselves. Cost has never been the reason a test didn’t happen.

The fee buys the test. It has never bought a result. Publication is unconditional. Nobody sees the episode before the audience does.

The terms

What every company signs

  1. 1Publication is unconditional. We publish regardless of outcome. No kill rights, no delay rights, no approval of the cut.
  2. 2No editorial review. The vendor sees the episode when the audience does.
  3. 3Payment is due before filming and is non-refundable. No outcome changes it.
  4. 4The fee buys the test. Nobody has ever paid for the result.
  5. 5Both parties get an unedited closing statement, up to 90 seconds.
  6. 6The contractor approves their own footage only, never the outcome, never the timing data, never the verdict.
  7. 7Factual corrections to on-screen data are accepted after publication and appear as a dated note on the episode page. The video is not re-cut.
